Presentation: Touching a Stranger's Child
This is an example of an Application Presentation submitted by a student enrolled in my Social Psychology course. It is posted here (with the student’s permission) to help future students in the class. Students create Application Presentations toward the end of the semester. The presentations are designed to help students apply social psychological solutions to everyday problems. Students define a societal problem, propose a social psychological solution, and share their insights with the class by recording presentation. Solutions should be based a student’s own brilliant social psychological insights, and based on social psychological principles, research, and theories discussed in the textbook.

PSY 2120: Two Options for Structuring Research Report 2
Переглядів 562 місяці тому
In this video, I discuss two options for structuring Research Report 2. One option involves writing a single-study APA-style research report. I suspect most students will select that option. Another option involves writing a multi-study APA-style research report that combines Research Project 1 (our survey research) with Research Project 2 (our experimental research). Students may decide which ...

    For change, you don't even have to do that much mental math. For example, for the $5 tendered and $1.03 that is owed, just make that #1.03 add up to a dollar. In this way you're adding, not subtracting where there's a higher chance of a mistake occurring. Only subtraction occurs IF that dollar bill is given with cents.

    • @FrankMLoSchiavo
      @FrankMLoSchiavo 3 місяці тому

      In most races, you can vote for just one person. For example, for President of the USA, you can vote for just one person. However, in some situations, there might be several vacant seat, such as for county commissioner. In those situations, you might be able to vote for more than one person to full the multiple seats. Some people like the idea of ranked voting (i.e., ranking those running from most preferred to least preferred), but that hasn't gained much steam in the USA.

    • @FrankMLoSchiavo
      @FrankMLoSchiavo 4 місяці тому

      @@divermike8943 In that situation, I'm just looking for the smallest bills/coins to cover the cost. Because a $1 bill won't cover the $1.03 cost, I would chose to pay with a $5 bill. Because I don't want a bunch of change in return, I'd add a nickel (5 cents) to cover the 3 cent cost. That's how I'd decide how to pay.

Then try to master the next example. And spend some time just thinking about it. For example, think about why someone might pay $11 when their bill is just $6. Well, the gap between 36 and 300 can be determined just about as quickly as the gap between 36 and 100. You'd just need to add 200 more. I'm not saying it's easy for everyone or that it's quick for everyone, and sometimes, it's better not to rely on your head, particularly when the consequences could be disastrous if you make a mistake.

      The calculator I used in the video is the basic "calculator" app available on computers running Windows. Actual calculators are usually inexpensive at stores like Walmart, and they last forever.

    You can just subtract the bills and the owed like in $1.00 - $0.73 = $0.27

    I have a disability similar to autism that includes math issues and I've struggled to make change and count money since the day they tried to teach me. Now, to get a promotion at work, they're requiring me to learn the register, so here we are. Thankfully, it'll tell you the amount of change, and the bills are no problem, but the coins are tripping me up. And after 8 1/2 minutes, I might actually be getting it. How do you do that?!

      If my video helped you, then I'm thrilled! Thx so much for reaching out. BTW, the register might show how much change is due, but there will be times when you either enter the wrong amount paid, or the customer decides to pay a different amount, etc., and during those times, you'll benefit from knowing how to calculate the change on your own, just to make sure it's right. Keep practicing. I hope you get that promotion soon :)

    I was never really good with these darn decimal problems in school. How you get 4.21 im lost... shouldn't the 2 be 3?

      The correct change is $4.21. That amount includes 21 cents and not 31 cents because as we're moving up from 79 cents to the next dollar, there's a gap of 21 cents. You can use a calculator to prove this to yourself...$1.00 - $0.79 = $0.21, or 21 cents. In my head, I'd round that 79 cents up 1 cent to 80 cents. Then it's easy to see that there's 20 cents between 80 cents and the next dollar. Because we rounded up 1 cent, we need to add that 1 cent to the 20 cents we just discussed, and now we know the coin portion of the change is 21 cents. I hope this helps :)
